(Limassol, Cyprus)

Limassol beachfront imageA very lively Cypriot city, the tourist attractions of Limassol really are year-round, with plenty to occupy visitors during the winter months, when other resorts are considerably quieter. Limassol has lots to see and do, suiting all ages, with some exceptional scuba diving, popular wineries, plenty of modern cinemas, seafront promenades, and a seriously exciting nightlife.

Top family attractions in Limassol include both the Time Elevator shows and the Municipal Gardens, where the Lemesos Zoo Garden and Dinosaur Park is located. Water park attractions are certainly all the rage in Cyprus and there are several within the Lemesos area to choose between, such as the Wet 'n' Wild and the Fasouri Watermania Waterpark.

Time Elevator

Address: Vasilissis 1, Limassol, Cyprus
Tel: +357 2576 2828
Highly suitable for families and all ages, the Time Elevator is very touristy and also extremely well advertised, so it's hardly likely that you can holiday in Limassol without hearing about it. The Time Elevator is an multimedia audio-visual / cinematic experience, with moving seats, wind and even a little water thrown in for good measure. Although this whole attraction is certainly a little cheesy, it does offer a quick way (40 minutes) to immerse yourself in the history of Cyprus (8500 BC to 1974) and learn a little more about where you are holidaying.

Another popular spot for some cool fun is the Fasouri Watermania Waterpark, which first came into being in 1998 and has continued to expand and improve its offerings every since. Scuba Diving

Address: Limassol, Cyprus
Scuba diving is a popular pastime in the Limassol area, both for holiday makers and locals alike. This is partly due to the fact that a number of awesome wreck sites are conveniently close to the shoreline. In particular, the Pharses II wreck is a real diving highlight in Lemesos and is teeming with marine life, as is the more recently discovered M/Y Diana yacht wreck, both of which are just over 20 metres / 66 feet below the Mediterranean's surface.

Nightlife

Address: Limassol, Cyprus
The nightlife of southern Cyprus is almost legendary and Limassol certainly joins the 'after-hours' scene with energy. When the sun begins to set, the city certainly comes alive, with plenty of attractions to offer both the youthful and older crowds that choose to holiday here. There are bars and nightclubs that really don't get going until 11:00 or midnight, and stay open until daybreak. However, if that doesn't 'float your boat', then consider simply sitting outside one of the innumerable late-night ice-cream shops and cafes, watching the world go by.

Lambouri Winery

Enjoying a truly stunning location and providing a thoroughly cultural experience, the award-winning Lambouri Winery is a far cry from the boring old rustic wineries found in many parts of the Mediterranean. Although the Lambouri Winery is around 300 years old, it has certainly invested in its future, with state-of-the-art equipment and a very stylish tasting room, where you can of course sample the produce after first enjoying an interesting and informative guided tour of the premises. There is even a small art exhibition onsite. The Lambouri Winery is just a short drive from Limassol and close to the Troodos mountains.

Municipal Gardens / Lemesos Zoo Garden

Address: Municipal Garden, Limassol, Cyprus
The Municipal Gardens provide a pleasant place to relax in the shade and perhaps take a stroll amidst the lush tropical flora. It does tend to be families that visit the Limassol Municipal Gardens in the greatest numbers, since there are a number of tourist attractions here aimed at children. The Dinosaur Park is always popular and although this small park is hardly what you might call Jurassic Park, its life-size dinosaur models are a bit of fun. Nearby, the Lemesos Zoo Garden is home to a collection of exotic creatures, such as wild sheep (mouflons), lions, tigers, ostriches and monkeys, amongst others. A short walk from the zoo is a large garden theatre, where many open-air events are hosted in the summer season.
