Downtown Port Douglas is centred on Macrossan Street and is easy to travel around on foot, although many locals find that cycling is a convenient mode of transport for short journeys.
Bus transport is also to hand in Port Douglas, operating each day between 07:00 and midnight. There is a choice of routes and different companies, although if you are purchasing a return ticket, do be aware that it will only be valid for that particular bus company. Reef and rainforest tours will usually happily collect passengers from hotels.

The closest significant airport to Port Douglas is Cairns Airport, which is located just over 60 km / 37 miles to the south and reached along the Captain Cook Highway. Situated close to Holloways Beach, Machan's Beach and the Mount Whitfield Conservation Park, Cairns Airport is easy to find and can be reached in little more than an hour. Shuttle bus transport is available, as well as taxis and car hire.
Car Rental
Port Douglas is amongst the last places before you reach Cooktown where you are able to rent 4WD vehicles. In the town, car hire is available on Davidson Street and Macrossan Street. Those will their own set of wheels are able to travel to nearby destinations along the coastline, such as Cooya Beach and Newell to the north, and Oak Beach and Wangetti Beach to the south.
Buses and Coaches
Various bus services are available around Far North Queensland, with round trips being very inexpensive and popular with tourists.
