Running in a southerly direction, the coastal Captain Cook Highway connects numerous points of interest, such as Oak Beach, Buchan Point, Palm Cove, Trinity Beach, Yorkeys Knob and Machan's Beach, before ultimately reaching the city of Cairns.

From Port Douglas, Cairns is just over an hours' drive away and comes with various tempting attractions, such as its large man-made saltwater lagoon, the Foreshore Promenade and the Kuranda Scenic Railway. Close to Cairns and within easy reach of Port Douglas is the popular Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, which boasts wonderful views of the forest canopy and runs between Caravonica and Kuranda.

General Information

Located directly to the north-west of Port Douglas, the Daintree National Park now ranks as a World Heritage Site and contains a plethora of attractions, the best of which include the Daintree Village, the Mossman Gorge and the Great Dividing Range. Many tourists choose to take an excursion to the Daintree National Park, as well as the adjacent Stewart Creek Valley.

Lying just beyond the Daintree River and located directly north of Port Douglas, Cape Kimberly Beach makes for a popular day trip destination and is an especially peaceful spot, with tropical planting, plenty of shade and its very own camping site. Close to Cape Kimberly Beach, other attractions include the extremely beautiful Cow Bay, Bailey Creek and Thornton Beach, where the famous Bouncing Stones Aboriginal Site have become something of a 'must see'. Head further north and you will soon reach Noah Beach, Myall Beach and Cape Tribulation.
