Canberra Parks and Gardens

(Canberra, Australian Capital Territory - ACT, Australia)

Canberra Parks and GardensAs a modern planned capital city, Canberra was laid out with its residents very much in mind and as such, huge swathes of land were allocated to become expansive parks and provide integral green spaces.

Particularly central is the Commonwealth Park, which was designed in the 1960s and resides on the northern banks of Lake Burley Griffin, being where the springtime Floriade festival is staged each year. Also in the centre of Canberra, the spectacular Australian National Botanic Gardens are situated in the city centre, being within walking distance of many major tourist attractions, such as both the South Oval and Sullivans Creek.

The Canberra Nature Park is spread either side of the city and is made up of some 30 different protected areas. These include the Aranda Bushland, the Crace Grassland Reserve, the Farrer Ridge, Mount Majura, the Mount Painter Reserve, Mount Taylor, the Oakey Hill Reserve and the Urambi Hills.
