The stunning Canberra coastline often plays an important part in the setting of many surrounding golf courses, which are often little more than a short drive away from the city centre.

One of the most presitigious is the Royal Canberra Golf Club, which is located in the district of Yarralumla, to the west of Capital Hill, Barton and Stirling Park. Here visiting golfers may well be able to play a round, although do bear in mind that this is a private members' club and club-endorsed letters are required, together with advance bookings. The history of the Royal Canberra Golf Club dates back to the early 1920s, when it was designed and laid out as part of the Westbourne Woods Arboretum, not long after the city's very first foundation stone was laid.

One of the city's premier courses, the Royal Canberra Golf Club is situated in the Yarralumla area of the Inner South region. With exception facilities, this outstanding 18-hole course is for members only, although it occasionally opens it doors to the general public. The club regularly hosts major golfing championships and tournaments in this area of Australia. Each month, on the second Sunday, walking tours of the surrounding Westbourne Woods Arboretum take place.

Capital Golf Course

The Capital Golf Course is one of the best courses in the city and is located in the Narrabundah area, close to the centre. The popular Capital Public Course has 18 holes, equipment hire, a well-stocked shop, instructors and a large clubhouse.
