Bandung Shopping and Districts

(Bandung, West Java, Indonesia)

Central Bandung is somewhat dominated by large-scale shopping centres and malls, and for many, the plentiful bargains are the main draw card here. Each weekend, lots of visitors arrive from nearby Jakarta, to take advantage of the endless shopping opportunities available in Bandung.

Ranging from the latest fashion accessories and jewellery, to denim jeans and factory outlets, Bandung has enough shops to easily fill your days, and then some. However, if you are shopping for designer labels and luxury goods, then you will certainly struggle here.

Where to Shop

For some serious shoe shopping in Bandung, head along the Jalan Cibaduyut, on the south-western side of the city centre, and be sure to bring your plenty of spending money. If it's stylish denim jeans you are after, then the place to be is the Jalan Cihampelas (Jean's Street), where jeans really do come in all sizes and colours imaginable.

One of the newest shopping centres in the city is the aptly named Bandung Supermal (Supermall - BSM) on the Jalan Gatot Subroto, which is home to the biggest Hero supermarket in the whole of Indonesia, as well as a small cinema complex, food court, tenpin bowling and of course, some 200+ shops. The Alun Alun area of central Bandung is a good place to find shopping centres, although most are a little on the old side and run down.

Other good city shopping malls include the Indah Plaza (BIP) on the Jalan Merdeka, the Bandung Trade Centre on the Jalan Terusan Pasteur, the Paris Van Java Mall on the Jalan Sukajadi, and the recently opened Plaza Cimahi on the Jalan Raya Cibabat. For everyday shopping and general food items, the stores around the Jalan Dalem Kaum are a good bet. Supermarkets are also available within the Ramayana department stores.
