Sulawesi Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

(Sulawesi, Sunda Islands, Indonesia)

With an enviable tropical climate and sunny weather in abundance, Sulawesi enjoys year-round temperatures averaging at least 30°C / 86°F. The climate of Sulawesi is typically Indonesian in character, falling into two distinctive periods - the dry season and the rainy, wet season.

The dry season in Sulawesi reliably falls between April and October, with the sunshine often being accompanied by relatively high levels of humidity. From September onwards, the weather begins to gradually change, with north-westerly monsoon winds arriving from Asia and picking up moisture along the way.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Although the wet season is an important time of the year to bear in mind when planning a holiday to resorts such as Bunaken, Makassar and Manado, Sulawesi's rainy weather is considerably less pronounced than other regions of Indonesia and South-East Asia.

Precipitation levels peak in January and February at around 280 mm / 11 inches. Even after a heavy stormy downpour, sunshine is usually not far behind and often makes an appearance, with the climate remaining hot and tropical.
