Surabaya Shopping and Districts

Home to some of the biggest shopping centres and malls in the whole of South-East Asia, the city of Surabaya is certainly a shoppers paradise, with a high percentage of locals working in this thriving retail industry. People from all around East Java come to Surabaya for its excellent shopping malls, particularly between May and June, when the main sales take place throughout the city.

One of the biggest shopping complexes within Surabaya is the Plaza Tunjungan, which stands in the very city centre and comprises four individual malls. The Plaza Tunjungan features a branch of the SOGO department store, as well as direct bridges connecting both the BBD Tower and the Sheraton Hotel.


Where to Shop

Another very prominent shopping centre in Surabaya is the Galaxy Mall (Mal Galaxy), which is amongst the largest that Indonesia has to offer and stands on the eastern side of the city. Standing on the Jalan Dharmahusada Indah Timur, the Galaxy Mall comes complete with a large supermarket, department stores, a food court area and a multi-screen cinema complex.

Close to the Submarine Monument, the Surabaya Plaza is a further glitzy shopping centre, along with the Supermal Pakuwon Indah to the west, Surabaya Town Square (SUTOS Mall) and the Royal Plaza, to the south and close to the Bonbin Zoo.
