Surabaya Hotels and Accommodation

(Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia)

Accommodation in Surabaya is certainly not expensive and plenty of cheap hotels await holiday makers. However, the prices and demand are always affected during the dry season (May to September / October), with lodging rates often rising slightly during July and August, the busiest months.

If you are a budget traveller headed to Surabaya, then you will find that the cheapest hotels are grouped around the Kota train station. Although this is an interesting and very inexpensive part of Surabaya, it is a fair distance to the north of the city centre, and so therefore if you are prepared to pay a little more for convenient central accommodation, then you will be able to save on travel costs.

Where to Stay

Within the mid-range lodging bracket, accommodation in Surabaya starts to include a plethora of familiar chain hotels and big-name brands, suiting those who favour modern facilities. The best of these include the Ibis on the Jalan Rajawali, the Mercure Surabaya on the Jalan Raya Darmo - next to the consulate building, and the Novotel on the Jalan Ngagel Surabaya - within the main business district.

If you are prepared to splash your cash a little, then luxury accommodation in Surabaya is not difficult to find, with most targeting the lucrative business market. On the Jalan Basuki Rahmat, the Hyatt Regency Surabaya is especially plush and known to offer good discounts during quiet spells. The Majapahit Mandarin Oriental Hotel on the Jalan Tunjungan is another top choice and features a more colonial character, being built in 1910 and easily being the city's best offering.
