Some of Udaipur's biggest events and most noteworthy things to do including traditional Rajasthani dancing and music, processions and all kinds of entertainment.

These celebrations and more and some of what you can expect if you are in city during the Mewar Festival, which is celebrated in Udaipur during March, to celebrate the arrival of the spring. The Gangaur Festival also falls at this time of the year, and sees religious festivities and ceremonial parades, being based around the Gangaur Ghat, alongside Lake Pichola.

Udaipur Calendar of Events and Festivals 2014 / 2015: What to Expect, and When

Also held during the month of March is the Holi (Festival of Colours), which tourists will always find an especially memorable event. By day, the Holi sees the sky filled with colourful powder being literally thrown around, while as night approached, Udaipur features countless bonfires, dancing and lots of parties.

The Summer Festival of Mount Abu takes place each year in June and is held over three days. With music, boat racing on the very scenic Nakki Lake, and evening fireworks, this event regularly attracts both locals and tourists alike, who come from nearby Udaipur and further. Soon after in June, the advent of the monsoon season is celebration during the Teej, an event dedicated to Lord Shiva.

If you are holidaying in Udaipur then there is a good chance to your trip will coincide with the ever-popular Shilpgram Festival. Based close by, in the neighbouring crafts village of Shilpgram, this event is staged each December and brings together everything that is good about the arts and crafts throughout western India, and lasts ten days in total. At the Shilpgram Festival, visitors from Udaipur can expect to see lots of embroideries, clothes, textiles and mirrors, amongst many other items for sale at the various stands.
