For all things scientific and astronomical, pay a visit to Mumbai's Nehru Centre and Nehru Planetarium. Various exhibitions and events take place here throughout the year, often with a strong science theme. The planetarium itself is particularly impressive, consisting of a large domed building, with daily shows explaining the mysteries of the solar system. Other attractions include the Nehru Auditorium, where various classical music concerts and shows are often staged.

Fantasy Land

Located within the Jogeshwari area, on the westerly outskirts of Mumbai, Fantasy Land is a large amusement park, full of exciting attractions and rides. Fantasy Land opened in 1992 and has been extremely popular ever since, and the main attractions include the Ze Ulta Fulta Express roller coaster, roundabouts, pedal boats and a choice of Chinese and American-style restaurants.

Essel World

One of the region's leading theme parks, Essel World is located on Gorai Island, close to Gorai Beach, and covers more than 60 acres / 24 hectares. In total, Essel World is home to more than 40 different rides and attractions, with its Water Kingdom reputed to be the best of its kind in the whole of Asia. The roller coasters are especially popular, although during the busiest times, it may be necessary to queue for the main rides.

Prithvi Theatre

Marine Drive

Known for its historic botanical gardens and many animal attractions, you can guarantee that Mumbai Zoo (Veermata Jeejmata Udayan) will always be a hit with children of all ages. One of Mumbai's most unusual attractions, the Dhobi Ghat at Mahalaxmi is where around 5,000 men and women literally beat the dirt from huge numbers of garments and clothes, which are brought here from all over the city. Using outdoor troughs and simply dried in the sunshine, many tourists come to the Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat for the photo opportunities alone, with great shots possible from the nearby bridge, close to Mahalaxmi train station.

Taraporewala Aquarium

Taraporewala Aquarium is full of marine creatures and fishy attractions, containing everything from sharks and octopus, to sea horses and living coral. Located in the heart of Mumbai and along Marine Drive, Taraporewala Aquarium first opened it doors in 1951 and is especially popular with visiting families. The attraction itself is hard to miss, featuring a brightly painted exterior with large white whales.
