Summer photo of central museum and gardensLocated within central China and on the northerly base of the Qinling Mountains, Xian enjoys a continental climate. Known for its long and hot summer weather, Xian features very distinctive seasons, with the winter months being considerably colder.

Both spring and fall remain fairly brief in Xian and offer a fairly pleasant climate, with both April and October seeing temperatures hovering around 16°C / 61°F or 17°C / 63°F by day. However, the plentiful sunny weather in June, July and August sees a dramatic hike in temperatures, with highs regularly exceeding 27°C / 81°F or 28°C / 82°F, and at times, topping 30°C / 86°F or more.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

The majority of Xian's rainiest weather tends to fall between August and October. Late summer sees short and relatively brief thunderstorms at times, affecting the overall climate and humidity.

By late September, the fall colours are beginning to appear and the temperatures start to feel more crisp. Occasional snow flurries can be expected at anytime between November and March.
