Breathtaking river pictureThe weather in Guilin is particularly distinctive and seasonal, with the climate being described as subtropical and influenced by the city's proximity to the South China Sea. Although summer temperatures are reliably high and the winter months remain mild, temperatures in Guilin can fluctuate somewhat, particularly during the monsoon season.

June, July and August always see the hottest climate in Guilin, with plenty of sunny weather to go round and temperatures regularly topping 30°C / 86°F or 31°C / 88°F, climbing as high as 35°C / 95°F at times. During this summer season, even the night-time temperatures remain high and around 25°C / 77°F, lending themselves to evening activities.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

January and February may experience the coldest climate, although daytime temperatures do tend to hover around a very favourable 18°C / 64°F or thereabouts. By night, temperatures in Guilin can fall sharply and overnight frost is experienced at times. However, snowy weather is quite uncommon and rarely makes an appearance.

Each year between April and August, Guilin sees the arrival of a very noteworthy monsoon season, when rain of some kind does fall on most days. The wettest months tends to be April, May and June, when tourism levels are especially low, and an umbrella is always a sensible item of luggage.
