Guilin Liangjiang International Airport (KWL) Information

(Guilin, Guangxi, China)

More than 50 years before the Guilin Liangjiang International Airport first opened as a civilian facility in 1996, the American Air Force used it a base while fighting the Japanese in WWII. This southern Chinese airport, formerly called the Kweilin Airfield, currently serves over five million passengers a year.

Roughly eight international and 30 domestic destinations can be reached non-stop from the Guilin Liangjiang International Airport's modern two-floor terminal, which overlooks an impressive 3,200-metre / 10,500-foot long runway and four dimensional flight area.

This garden-style airport was designed to seamlessly blend in with the rest of the city's green surroundings. Four spacious lakes and countless ancient rock formations encircle Guilin, a peaceful city along the banks of the Li River.

Facilities:

Cars

Although both the province and city of Guilin contain many well-maintained expressways, motorists may have to drive on two-lane roads during lengthy journeys through rural areas.

Do note that visitors are unable to hire a car in China without first holding either a Chinese driving licence or a relevant provisional licence. Instead, most tourists simply choose to rent a vehicle complete with a personal driver, which is actually more affordable than it first sounds.

Taxis

Taxis can be hailed outside of the airport and other locations around Guilin, but aren't always easy to catch during prime early evening rush hours. Most taxi rates are flat for the first 2 km / 1.2 miles and increase for longer journeys.

Buses

Passengers will find shuttle buses awaiting them at the Arrivals hall exit. These buses leave for the city centre every half-hour and tend to cost less than taxis. Passengers can also board buses heading to the airport between early morning and evening at the Civil Aviation Mansion in Guilin.
