The arts scene within Xiamen is very much based around its oil paintings and commercial galleries. In fact, the number of quality of oil paintings produced in Xiamen has created the largest industry of its kind within the whole of China, and one of the biggest in the world.

There prestigious Chinese European Art Center was first established in Xiamen in 1999 and has gained considerable notoriety ever since. Various art works are regularly exhibited here, with both local Chinese artists and many further artists from all over Europe. Various lectures regularly take place within the galleries, where traditional Chinese art is often explained and introduced to visitors. An extensive library is also available onsite.
