Zimbabwe Hotels and Accommodation

(Zimbabwe, ZW, Southern Africa)

After a period of political unrest, during which tourism in Zimbabwe virtually dried up, the country has managed to revive its flagging tourist fortunes.

These days, a variety of accommodation is available, ranging from rooms in city centre hotels and guesthouses to more remote African-style lodges.

More and more visitors are now opting to break their holiday into two parts. The first part generally consists of a week exploring in and around Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe. In the second part, tourists travel further afield to visit a particular tourist destination, such as Victoria Falls or a safari park.

Where to Stay

Harare is likely to be your first stopping-off point in Zimbabwe. As the country's capital city, Harare offers plenty of accommodation, ranging from high-end hotels in a central location to backpacker-style lodges and similar lodging options. In addition, suburban-based guesthouses cater for most budgets, from those seeking a spot of luxury to visitors looking for something more mid-range.

Northern Zimbabwe is where many of the country's top attractions can be found. These include Lake Kariba and the Mana Pools National Park. Accommodation includes self-catering lodges and tented safari camps.

In western Zimbabwe, visitors get to stay close to the country's leading tourist destination, the Victoria Falls, as well as several national parks. Many hotels, guesthouses and hostels can be found in the town of Victoria Falls itself and also within the city of Bulawayo. The Victoria Falls Hotel can't be beaten when it comes to colonial atmosphere. For the complete bush experience, a safari lodge is a great place to base a holiday. Shoestring travellers can opt for rooms in hostels or campsites.
