Attractions Nearby Zimbabwe, Day Trips and Excursions

(Zimbabwe, ZW, Southern Africa)

To the west of Zimbabwe lies Botswana, whilst to the east is Mozambique. Northern Zimbabwe is joined to Zambia, and in the south, it borders on South Africa.

If your holiday is a lengthy one, then it certainly makes sense to turn it into a real African adventure, visiting some of the principal cities and national parks in neighboring countries. However, you will need to spend much time planning both your itinerary and travel plans, so that your time visiting these attractions is maximised, rather than spent getting lost or distracted along the way.

What all of these southern African countries have in common is spectacular scenery, a rich history and some remarkable tourist destinations. There are also some great places to eat out as well in the main cities, such as Benoni, Johannesburg and Pretoria in South Africa. And if you are able to make it all the way to Cape Town, then the fish and chip restaurants at the Victoria and Albert Waterfront are more than worth looking out for.

Botswana

Botswana is notable as a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, thanks to its many reserves and national park attractions. Botswana's towns and cities are also worth exploring, from the capital of Gaborone to the historic Francistown and Lobatse, known as the gateway to the Trans-Kalahari Highway.

Mozambique

Mozambique might not initially seem like an obvious tourist destination. Nonetheless, it is becoming more and more popular with international visitors. Whilst the majority of its most-visited destinations are located in the east, northern Mozambique offers a glimpse into this country's more remote side. The once glamorous capital city of Maputo has many tourist sights, but is perhaps best appreciated for its beaches.

Zambia

The borders of northern Zimbabwe and Zambia are largely formed by Lake Kariba, Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River. It goes without saying, then, that Zambia offers plenty in the way of natural attractions and wonders. Tourists can have a go at everything from white water rafting to elephant-back safari trails. Major towns include Lusaka, the capital city, and the historic town of Livingstone.

South Africa

Along the southern border of Zimbabwe, separating it from South Africa, flows the Limpopo River. Tourist destinations in the northern part of South Africa include the Kruger National Park, one of the biggest game reserves in Africa. As far as cities go, Johannesburg is widely regarded as the heart of South Africa. This flourishing city is a popular tourist destination that boasts plenty to see and do, including South Africa's biggest township of Soweto.
