The high seasons in Salt Lake City fall during the summer and winter months, when accommodation is most in demand, and consequently, prices rise accordingly. Many tourists choose to base themselves in Salt Lake City due to its relative proximity to the seasonal ski resorts around the Wasatch Mountains, which draw skiers from far and wide from December through April. The best ski resorts are little more than a 30-minute drive away from Salt Lake City and boast powdery snow, breathtaking views and affordable skiing. Various lodging options surround the main ski resorts and valley area, with condos being available around the Alta, Brighton, Snowbird and Solitude resorts.

Some of the most inexpensive motels and hotels in Salt Lake City stand on the West North Temple Street, where they offer budget accommodation in very basic surroundings. If you are really looking to save some money on lodging, then the HI Avenues Hostel on F Street may be of interest, along with the Ute Hostel on Kelsey Avenue, on the southern side of downtown. If you prefer camping, then there are a number of surrounding USFS campsites at both the Big Cottonwood Canyon and the Little Cottonwood Canyon, within the scenic Wasatch Mountains.

For mid-range accommodation in Salt Lake City, you are almost spoilt for choice. If you are planning to stay in the heart of the action, then the Best Western Garden Inn at Salt City Plaza on West 500 Street is the perfect option. Also popular is the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel on West South Temple, which is conveniently sited across from the Salt Palace Convention Center, Temple Square and the Utah Symphony Hall, being just a stroll away from the Arrow Press Square Shopping Center.

Luxury accommodation in Salt Lake City comes in the form of the five-star Grand America Hotel on South Main Street, which prides itself on its upmarket furnishings and mountain views. Slightly cheaper is the four-star Hilton Hotel on South West Temple, and the Sheraton on West 500 South.
