San Antonio Hotels and Accommodation

(San Antonio, Texas - TX, USA)

There is no denying that San Antonio is a popular Texan city and when a big sporting event, seasonal festival or major convention is taking place here, you can expect accommodation to quickly fill to capacity. During the busiest periods, San Antonio's hotels understandably raise their lodging rates to make the very most of the increase in demand.

There are some hotels situated near to the San Antonio International Airport (SAT), which is to be found just 8 miles / 13 km to the north and off the McAllister Freeway. Neighboring airport accommodation includes Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott, the Holiday Inn Hotel, the Staybridge Suites, and the TownePlace Suites by Marriott, all of which are clustered on the Northeast Loop US-410, near to both the North Star Mall and La Plaza Del Norte Shopping Center.

Where to Stay

Backpackers in search of budget accommodation will find a few tempting lodging options that are reliably cheap, such as the centrally located Alpha Hotel on North Main Avenue, and the Travelers Hotel on North Broadway. However, you should always note that you do generally get what you pay for. Most budget hotels in San Antonio offer basic facilities, small rooms and a location well away from the city center attractions.

Particularly affordable and well-placed is the two-star Rodeway Inn Downtown on North Main Avenue, which is close to Madison Square Park and just 1 mile / 1.5 km from the city's famed River Walk (Paseo del Rio). For a little more money, consider staying at the three-star Residence Inn by Marriott Downtown Hotel or the Holiday Inn Downtown. Both of these hotels stand on the South Santa Rosa Avenue and near to the University of Texas at San Antonio, being just a few blocks away from the City Hall.

Those looking for accommodation in close proximity to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center will find the location of the Grand Hyatt on East Market Street especially convenient. This luxurious four-star hotel is within easy walking distance of a number of central attractions, such as the HemisFair Park and of course, the downtown River Walk trail, along the scenic banks of the San Antonio River.

Close by and somewhat cheaper is the four-star Hotel Valencia Riverwalk, which is known for its Tuscan-style facade and contemporary interior. Families often choose to stay at the Westin on La Cantera Parkway, which is located on the northern side of the city and is the closest hotel to the outlying San Antonio Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme park.
