Located in the northeastern quadrant of Texas state, the city of Fort Worth resides within no less than four different counties, namely Denton, Parker, Tarrant and Wise, being the county seat for Tarrant. The city serves as the second-biggest belonging to the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington region, after the world-famous metropolis that is Dallas.

The city of Dallas lies directly east of Fort Worth, via the Tom Landry Freeway (Interstate I-30), and with a rental car it can be comfortably reached in around 45 minutes or thereabouts. Irving is slightly closer, while Arlington is a mere 25 minutes away by road.

Maps show that Fort Worth belongs to the American Southwest and in particular, the region known as the Grand Prairie, within Cross Timbers. The downtown district is dissected by the South Freeway (Interstate I-35W) and boasts a wealth of buildings featuring Art Deco and Beaux Arts architecture.

The city of Fort Worth is split into a series of regions and neighborhoods on detailed maps. The principal regions are simply named in accordance of their location and direction, such as Central, East, West, North, South, Northeast and Far North.

Within Central Fort Worth are the neighborhoods of Berkeley Place, Fairmount, Mistletoe Heights, Ryan Place, Sundance Square and Trinity Bluff. The largest assortment of neighborhoods live in the South, which is where the campus of the Texas Christian University (TCU) is to be found.
