As one of the smallest and least populated of all the state capitals in North America, it will come as no great surprise that the city of Pierre doesn't come with much in the way of accommodation. Most of the hotels tend to be concentrated in the very heart of downtown Pierre and include a number of familiar lodging chains.

Especially popular and central is the Super 8, offering convenient budget accommodation on West Sioux Avenue, close to Steamboat Park.

Also situated on West Sioux Avenue is the Comfort Inn, the Days Inn, the Governor's Inn, the Clubhouse Hotel, the River Lodge and the Best Western Pierre Ramkota, which boasts a large indoor swimming pool, a fitness centre and restaurant.

Where to Stay

A matter of minutes away from the Best Western Hotel is Hipple Park, the South Dakota Discovery Center and Aquarium, and the Lake Sharpe reservoir on the Missouri River. Just off the West Sioux Avenue, South Poplar Avenue is where you will find the highly recommended Pierre Inn and Suites, which features well-appointed rooms with good amenities, such as in-room refrigerators and microwaves.

For budget accommodation, look along North Euclid Street. This is where you will find the Pierre State Motel and its cheap, no-frills guest rooms.

Several particularly notable hotels line the busy Highway US-83 (1st Street / State Highway 1806). The Holiday Inn Express on East Stanley Road is one such hotel on the other side of the river, in neighboring Fort Pierre, where it offers affordable accommodation, an indoor pool, a fitness center and plenty of solid reviews.
