Pierre Art Galleries
(Pierre, South Dakota - SD, USA)
If you are coming to Pierre with a view to checking out a gallery and perhaps purchasing some original art work, then you will be disappointed to hear that there is very little in this tiny state capital which fits that bill.
There are a number of old paintings and photographs on display at the
South Dakota National Guard Museum, although your best bet would be to simply pay a visit to the Sharon Welch Gallery and Studio.
Standing on the corner of South Pierre Street and East Capitol Avenue, this commercial gallery is just a stroll away from downtown attractions, such as the State Theater 1-2-3 complex and the magnificent
South Dakota State Capitol.

The Sharon Welch Gallery and Studio specializes in a range of different styles and media, including both Native American-style paintings and more contemporary, abstract canvasses. All of the paintings are created by the namesake artist, award-winning Sharon Welch, who enjoys the process of creating bold statement pieces, which are often inspired by the landscape and seasons around her, such as the scenery along the Sioux River.
Many of the paintings are available as gift cards and allow you to pick up a very affordable souvenir, for a fraction of the price of the original painting. Of note, regular art classes are held here for both children and grown-ups, providing the chance for you to 'release your inner masterpiece'.
Open hours: Monday to Friday - 16:00 to 18:00, or by appointment
