Tulsa is the state's Mecca for the arts and the city supports a burgeoning local arts scene, together with some excellent art galleries that are home to works from around the world. The city's love of the arts is most easily seen from the profusion of Art Deco buildings in Tulsa, as well as outdoor art galleries and displays, and public sculptures, including the 75-foot / 23-meter Golden Driller - a tribute to the city's heady oil days.

Given its significant Native American heritage, Native American art works also figure highly in the Tulsa area. When it comes to local galleries, the accredited Philbrook Museum of Art really does stand out and has become famous not only for its wealth of masterpieces, but also for its majestic architecture and stunning Italianate gardens.

Housed in a stunningly beautiful 1920s Italian-style villa are some 8,500 works of art, including impressive pieces from the Italian Renaissance period, Asian and Native American art as well as a number of sculptures. Opened in 1938 as the city's very first art museum, the building itself is the former home of oil magnate Waite Phillips and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Nearby attractions include the Tulsa Historical Society and the Woodward Park's Municipal Rose Garden.

Alexandre Hogue Gallery of Art

Located at the University of Tulsa, this interesting gallery showcases regular exhibitions of contemporary art as well as works by local artists. Also located on the campus and within walking distance are the Skelly Stadium and the Reynold Center, while Turner Park is just a short distance away and to the east.
