West Yellowstone Hotels and Accommodation

(West Yellowstone, Montana - MT, USA)

Photo of traditional local hotelThe sheer proximity of the wonderful Yellowstone National Park and its endless attractions means that despite its relatively small size, West Yellowstone has become somewhat of a big accommodation hotspot. There are all kinds of hotels and lodging options to be found both in and around West Yellowstone, never far from the parks hiking, horseback rides, fishing, mountain biking, river rafting and winter sports opportunities.

With so many hotels so close to each other, prices stay relatively competitive throughout the year, although bargains are hard to come by in the summer, when the best, most well-placed accommodation quickly becomes fully booked. The cheapest lodging tends to be found along the Targhee Pass Highway (Firehole Avenue / US-20) and also the Gallatin Road (Canyon Street / US-191).

Where to Stay

Electric Street divides the very heart of West Yellowstone and runs in a north / south direction, parallel to Canyon Street. Hotels of Electric Street are particularly popular, with the biggest names in accommodation including the Yellowstone Lodge, the American West, and the Clubhouse Inn, which is especially handy for the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center attraction.

Gibbon Avenue is another very central street in West Yellowstone and heads east / west, dissecting Electric Street on its axis and passing the City Park. The Best Western Weston Inn comes highly recommended and is just a stroll from the town's swanky IMAX Theater, on South Canyon Street.

However, many people prefer to experience the park's sights and sounds just a little closer to hand, stay at one of the cabins, lodges, hotels or camping sites within the Yellowstone National Park itself. There are literally hundred of accommodation options, particularly around Canyon Country, Geyser Country and Lake Country, and it can be bewildering choosing where to stay. However, even camping sites will fill up completely in the busy summer months, so make sure you reserve your place before you arrive.
