Kansas City Hotels and Accommodation

(Kansas City, Missouri - MO, USA)

If you are planning a holiday in Kansas City, or perhaps a business trip, then you will have plenty of accommodation to choose from. Hotels in downtown Kansas City are generally fairly expensive, with a large selection of cheap motels residing outside of the city, usually being within commuting distance of the main attractions and the theater district via Metro buses.

There is also a real abundance of hotels to be found spreading outwards from nearby Kansas City International Airport (MCI), which is just 18 miles / 29 km to the northwest and close to the suburb of Tiffany Springs. Amongst the main airport accommodation is the onsite Marriott on Brasilia Avenue, which is actually the only hotel to be based within the grounds of the airport and enjoys views across a small lake. Within no more than a 1-mile / 1.5-km radius is the Extended Stay America and the Radisson, both of which stand on the Northwest Plaza Circle. On the nearby North Ambassador Drive is the Holiday Inn Express and the Residence Inn by Marriott, while a similar distance away is the Sleep Inn on the Northwest 97th Terrace.

Where to Stay

There are many budget hotels based around Kansas City, with plenty of motels lying just off exits 12 and 13 on the Interstate I-29. Further cheap accommodation is to be found next to the Interstate I-435, at exits leading to the city, and within the neighboring cities of Independence and Riverside.

Particularly notable is the Americas Best Value Inn on the Blue Ridge Boulevard (off Highway US-71), which is a matter of minutes from downtown attractions. Conveniently standing alongside the World of Fun amusement park is the Super 8 Motel on North Corrington Avenue, while on East 87th Avenue and close to central Kansas City is the Capital Center Inn on East 87th Avenue.

Some of the most popular mid-range lodging areas in Kansas City include the Main Street, the Plaza Circle, West 43rd Street and West 12th Street, the latter of which being home to the city's biggest hotel, the Marriott Downtown. Much of the mid-range accommodation has grown up around the famous Country Club Plaza, which is an especially appealing shopping district and located on the southern side of Kansas City. Hotels skirting the Country Club Plaza include the Best Western Seville on the Main Street, the Courtyard by Marriott on the JC Nichols Parkway, the Holiday Inn on East 45th Street, and the Sheraton Suites on West 47th Street.

If money is no object and you prefer luxury accommodation, then there are several very appealing hotels that might tempt you to max out your credit card. The five-star InterContinental Kansas City on Ward Parkway lies to one side of the Country Club Plaza, while the more pricey four-star boutique-style Raphael Hotel is also located on the Ward Parkway, and highly regarded by Condé Nast Traveler. Also of note in Kansas City and very much within the luxury lodging category is the downtown Hilton President on Baltimore Avenue, and both the Hyatt Regency Crown Center on McGee Street and the Westin Crown Center on Pershing Road - which are situated within the popular Crown Center shopping and entertainment complex.
