In particular, the numerous exhibition venues in the Crossroads Arts district of Kansas City are thriving, where every first Friday of the month witnesses exciting street festivities, with art galleries staying open until 21:00, offering food, entertainment and events.

Crossroads isn't the only art-drenched district in Kansas City though - art galleries are scattered all over the city, having popped up like mushrooms around the downtown district, Westport and the Country Club Plaza area. Lovers of creativity and crafts have plenty of options to feast their eyes on, choosing between local, regional and international works. Two particular highlights that really do deserve a mention are the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.

Recognized as one of America's most impressive art galleries and museums, the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art encompasses a superb selection of European and American art, contemporary sculpture, ancient Egyptian pottery and a magnificent Asian art collection.
