Frankfort Shopping and Districts

(Frankfort, Kentucky - KY, USA)

Even though this is the capital of Kentucky, the city of Frankfort is certainly not home to the state's most significant shopping scene, particularly when compared to Kentucky's considerably larger cities of Louisville and Lexington.

That said, there are certainly enough shops in Frankfort to meet the needs of most visitors. In the city center and on the northern side of the Kentucky River, Broadway Street, St. Clair Street and Washington Street are all home to a variety of interesting independent stores and shopping opportunities. To the south, West 2nd Street is where you will find Bryant's Pic-Pac Supermarket, Sweet Sarah's Boutique and Craft Studio, and Rebecca Ruth Chocolates.

A number of the leading tourist attractions in Frankfort come with their own themed gift shops, and many visitors make a purchase or two on their way out. This is the case at the Buffalo Trace Distillery on Great Buffalo Trace, where the guide-led Bourbon Trail is a big draw for holiday makers. Further gift shops are to be found at the Clyde E. Buckley Wildlife Sanctuary and Audubon Center on Germany Road, and at the Kentucky State Police Museum on Chamberlin Avenue.

Where to Shop

Situated on the eastern side of Frankfort and along Versailles Road (Highway US-421) is the Eastwood Shopping Center, a fairly small strip mall with a Family Dollar Store. Literally minutes to the south and still standing on Versailles Road is the Frankfort Peddler's Mall, which is something of a flea market, full of bric-a-brac, handicrafts and some collectibles.

Drive slightly further south along Versailles Road and you will soon reach the Brighton Park Shopping Center, which is situated just off the main highway, on the Brighton Park Boulevard. This out-of-town strip mall is home to Lyons Do It Best Hardware, Southern Rides and Mulligan's Indoor Golf, as well as the Fix Computer Store.

To the far southwest of the city center and on the very outskirts of Frankfort is the Franklin Square Shopping Center. A good selection of shops and eateries await shoppers here, along with the Franklin Square Cinema 6 movie theater. More centrally located is the Fountain Place Shoppes complex, which adjoins the Frankfort Convention Center on Mero Street.
