Museums in Wichita celebrate the area's colorful past, none more so than the Old Cowtown Museum, which is full of history and artifacts relating to the Old West.

Another of Wichita's cultural offerings more than worthy of a visit is the Kansas Aviation Museum, which is home to a truly impressive collection of historic aircraft and aviation-related memorabilia.

Old Cowtown is a living history museum dedicated to showing how people survived in the Old West, in the days of early Sedgwick County. Cowtown is well set up and lifelike, with wooden sidewalks, historic homes, Wichita's first jail, a pioneer church, one-room school, blacksmith shop, rail depot, 19th-century newspaper office, saddler and harness shop, grain elevator, saloon, general store, drug store and various other apt attractions. There are also cattle, horses and chickens to add to the atmosphere.

Kansas Aviation Museum

Housing over 40 historic planes and aircraft, the Kansas Aviation Museum also includes many important aeronautical artifacts and displays. Highlights here include a Boeing B-52 Stratofortress aircraft, a vast photograph archive, educational exhibits and the Control Tower Gift Shop.
