A number of courses are based in Topeka and close by, in neighboring Shawnee. Especially historic is the Topeka Country Club on Southwest Buchanan Street, which was founded in 1905 and offers 18 holes with exceptional facilities, including a large open-air swimming pool and fine dining with a view at the clubhouse restaurant.

Visitors can play a cheap round of either 18 holes or nine holes at the Cypress Ridge, or a quick game at the Forbes Course, where nine holes, a pro shop and a cafe await.

A championship layout with 27 holes resides at the very affordable Shawnee Country Club, which is located just over an hour to the east (via Interstate I-70), on the outskirts of Kansas City.
