The climate of Dover, capital of Delaware state, is generally categorized as being humid and subtropical. In the winter, the weather is relatively mild and surprisingly warm at times. Winter temperatures stay comfortably above freezing most days, thanks to the city's proximity to Delaware Bay and its sheltered situation provided by the Appalachian Mountains.
