Dover Shopping and Districts

(Dover, Delaware - DE, USA)

If you are planning a shopping trip in Dover, then there are a number of different options to consider. Walking along the main thoroughfares of the city center will reveal plenty of interesting shops and boutiques, which can be found lining roads such as South Governors Avenue and West Loockerman Street.

For a day of serious shopping, you will really need to head to the two adjacent malls located on the northern side of the city center, on the North Dupont Highway.

The North Dover Shopping Center stands opposite the Delaware State University and right next to the International Speedway. Next-door is the indoor Dover Mall, which comes with sizeable department stores, tax-free goods, a very decent food court area and a modern cinema complex, as well as lots of parking spaces and good public transport connections.

Where to Shop

Being the third-biggest shopping mall in the whole of Delaware, the Dover Mall is a very popular place to enjoy a spot of retail therapy, particularly at the weekends and on rainy days. The mall opened in the early years of the 1980s and is now called home by more than 80 different stores.

The shopping hours at the Dover Mall are long, with most of the resident shops choosing to open between the hours of 10:00 and 21:00 from Monday to Saturday, and from 11:00 until 18:00 on Sundays. Several large anchor stores are based here, namely Boscov's, JC Penney, Macy's, Old Navy and also Sears.

The neighboring North Dover Shopping Center offers an altogether different shopping experience, being made up of a cluster of large out-of-town stores, fronted by a lengthy parking lot. These stores include familiar names like Staples, TJ Maxx and Toys 'R' Us. A huge Kmart stall is just a short drive away, down the North Dupont Highway.

If you are prepared to drive outside of Dover, then consider the shopping available in Milford, roughly 30 minutes to the south. From here, head in a southeasterly direction along the Coastal Highway (Route 1) towards Rehoboth Beach, and you will soon find both the Rehoboth Mall and the Tanger Outlet Center.
