(Lake Tahoe, California - CA, USA)

View of al fresco diners, enjoying the summer sunshineSince Lake Tahoe lies alongside the California - Nevada border, the cuisine available at its many surrounding restaurants in strongly influenced by its location, with dining venues based on the easterly and southeasterly Nevada side often based housed within or close to large casino spa complexes.

Restaurants on the Californian side of Lake Tahoe are known for their 'fusion' style of cuisine, blending a range of ingredients from around Asia and Mexico. Gastro pubs with gourmet burgers can also be found in this area, while on the Nevada side, dining options include everything from ethnic and Native American dishes, often accompanied by a Wild West cowboy theme. Of course, within all of the biggest resorts surrounding Lake Tahoe, fast-food restaurants are never hard to find and perfect for those in a rush, looking for a cheap meal.

Where to Eat

On the north shore, Tahoe Vista is a small town with a good selection of dining options, which are particularly plentiful along the North Lake Boulevard and known for their extravagant menus and lengthy wine lists. Close by, look to Carnelian Bay for succulent rib-eye steaks and grills, with eateries often enjoying lakeside views of the pier and passing watercraft.

Slightly to the south of Carnelian Bay and on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, look no further than Tahoe City itself for one of the best choices of restaurants, bars and nightlife opportunities in the area.

For a touch of Nevada, check out the restaurants around Stateline and South Lake Tahoe, on the south shore, close to Carson City. Many of these serve a range of seafood dishes, such as salmon and tuna, with the cheapest dining venues lining the Highway US-50 and the Needle Peak Road. In Stateline, lakeside views as you dine don't come much better than those on offer at the Edgewood Restaurant, which is located within the clubhouse at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.
