Fresno Maps and Orientation

(Fresno, California - CA, USA)

Situated in the central portion of California state and within the San Joaquin Valley region, the city of Fresno belongs to the county of the same name and functions as its county seat. The city is roughly equidistant between Modesto and Bakersfield, and within driving distance of both Monterey and San Jose.

Boasting a population now larger than 500,000 people means that Fresno currently ranks as the fifth-biggest city in the whole of California, with its metropolitan area coming with a population of just over 1.1 million.

Many visitors choose to spend time in this city whilst heading to the Yosemite National Park, a little over an hour to the north, or to the Sequoia National Park, slightly further away and to the southeast. Maps or a good sat-nav system are an essential accessory when hiring a car and traveling outside of Fresno, although roads in California are generally well-signposted.

Maps and Orientation of the City

Enjoying such a central location in California means that Fresno is relatively close to a number of the state's most popular and most significant cities, recreation areas and parks. And the fact that both highways US-41 and US-99 intersect here certainly makes exploring the region all the more easy, suiting those with a rental car or their own set of wheels.

Downtown Fresno is amongst the more important of the city's neighborhoods and in recent decades has witnessed a new era architecturally, with some of its oldest and arguably its ugliest buildings being knocked down and replaced with contemporary counterparts. Other notable neighborhoods include Huntington Boulevard, the Old Fig Garden, Sierra Sky Park, Sunnyside, the Tower District, West Side and Woodward Park, amongst others.
