Fresno Tourist Attractions and Sightseeing

(Fresno, California - CA, USA)

Many of the principal tourist attractions based in the city are to be found within the downtown district or close by, within one of the surrounding neighborhoods. In the very core of the city, both the Chinatown district (home of the Azteca Theater) and the pedestrianised Fulton Mall are particularly popular with tourists, combining history with shopping, eating and architecture.

Guided walking tours of Fresno provide an easy way to familiarise yourself with this city and its attractions, with the 'About Town Taste' tours offering an insight into the city's history, local art and dining scene.

For recreation in Fresno there are a number of green spaces, including two sizeable public parks within the city itself and a further parkland on the southwesterly outskirts. Woodward Park lies on the northern side of the city's boundary, next to the San Joaquin River Parkway, where it is filled with seasonal attractions such as the beautifully landscaped Shinzen Japanese Gardens.

Rather more centrally located is Roeding Park, home of Chaffee Zoo, which dates back to the late 1920s and covers approximately 7 hectares / 17 acres. Tourist will find that attractions at Roeding Park include the Giraffe Feeding Station, the Sea Lion Cove, Small Animal Encounters, the Sunda Forest, Tropical Aviaries, the Tropical Rain Forest and Wolf Woods, as well as the Winged Wonders Bird Show.

Kearney Park is also of interest to tourists, being the biggest of the city's parkland system and where you will find the Kearney Mansion, together with seasonal Civil War reenactments. During the summer, families with children tend to flock to the Island Water Park to cool off on its numerous water slides and lazy river.
