A unique attraction that is a must for any music lover, Birmingham's Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame showcases the famous jazz music and musicians who have hailed from the state. The exhibits include all sorts of intriguing memorabilia related to such jazz greats as Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton and Erskine Hawkins. There is also an extensive collection of sheet and recorded jazz music.

Birmingham Botanical Gardens

A lovely green space in which to relax and get close to nature, Birmingham Botanical Gardens has more than 67 acres / 27 hectares of beautifully manicured gardens set right in the center of the city. The highlight of the park is the magnificent Japanese Garden, with its teahouse and emphasis on the creation of a Zen ambiance.

Birmingham Zoo

Famous for its rare white rhino, Birmingham Zoo has an amazing collection of more than 700 animals housed in spacious and authentic surroundings. Apart from observing the rhino, you can check out the thrilling Alligator Swamp, hand feed parrots in the Aviary and watch grazing animals in the Savannah. Other attractions include a miniature train which lets you tour the zoo from a different perspective, and a gift shop with lots of great souvenirs.

Visionland is actually two theme parks in one, Splash Beach Water Park and Magic Adventure Theme Park, close to Birmingham. Great fun for all ages, Visionland is particularly geared toward young adults, with one of the main attractions being the thrilling Crimson Tide. The water park is great during the summer, with dozens of rides of various lengths catering to the whole family.
