The Halifax Stanfield International Airport is the seventh-largest air hub in
Canada. It handles just under four million passengers a year and is located in Nova Scotia, just northeast of the city of Halifax. It is the major air gateway for those wanting to explore the naturally beautiful province of Nova Scotia.
Both scheduled and seasonal charter flights service the airport. The main airlines operating here include Air Canada, Delta Connection, Porter Airlines, United and WestJet. Connections are available to domestic, as well as international destinations. Popular international destinations include the likes of Newark,
Boston,
London (
Heathrow) and
New York (La Guardia).
The breathtaking coast of Nova Scotia can easily be reached from the airport via the NS-102 and NS-118 roads, with Halifax being roughly a 40-minute drive away.

The city of Halifax is located just 24 miles / 39 km to the southwest of the Halifax Stanfield International Airport. Visitors should turn off Highway NS-102 at Exit 6 to reach the city center. From the airport, it is easy to access the popular southerly attractions of the Crystal Crescent Beach Provincial Park, the Long Lake Provincial Park and the Terrence Bay Wilderness Area, as well as St. Margarets Bay to the southeast.
Facilities:
- Passengers will find bureaux de change and plenty of ATMs on the main level of the terminal building
- Eateries include fast food chains, cafés and restaurants such as Burger King and Tim Hortons
- Shops are plentiful in the Airport Square on the main level, with take-home lobsters at Clearwater Seafood, as well as convenience, clothing and bookstores including Roots, Hudson News and Relay Books
- International travelers can make use of the duty free shops after the security check (Runway Duty Free)
- Car hire companies are represented in the Airport Parkade, including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise and Hertz
- Those travelling with children can make use of the play area near Gate 18 on the Departures level
- There is a chapel located on the second level of the terminal building
- There are no conference facilities or meeting rooms onsite. However, nearby hotels including the Hilton Garden Inn and the Quality Inn offer such services
- There is hourly and daily parking
- Long-term parking is available at the Park 'N Fly lot, with a free shuttle bus service to the terminal
Cars
From the airport, take the NS-102 south to the center of Halifax, passing by Miller Lake, Lake Thomas, the Waverley / Lake William Water Aerodrome, Lake Charles, Shubie Park, Lake Micmac, Crichton Park and the Brightwood Country Club. By continuing past the city center on the same road, visitors can reach the coastal region, along with the Long Lake Provincial Park, while taking the NS-102 north leads directly to the town of Truro.

Metro Transit offers public bus services from the airport to Halifax city center. Visitors should take bus number 320, which has services every half an hour during peak times and once an hour during off-peak times. There are also private shuttle bus services to the city center and its principal hotels.
Taxis
Taxis are cheap and readily available from outside the terminal building. Numerous taxi companies have licences to service Halifax Airport, including Casino, Galaxy, Yellow Cab and Atlas. Pre-arranged limousine services are also available.
