Cayo Guillermo Restaurants and Dining

(Cayo Guillermo, Ciego de Avila, Jardines del Rey, Cuba)

The dining options on Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Coco are rather limited, since nearly all the hotels on the cays are all-inclusive. This means your meals are included in the room rate, and thus most guests inevitably end up taking advantage of the restaurants on site.

Luckily, every hotel on the cays has several eateries to choose from, and many of them are excellent. Also, no one will stop you from visiting another hotel and enjoying one of their restaurants, as they are all open to the public.

What to Eat, and Where

As you would imagine, the top hotels on Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Coco are home to the best restaurants on the islands. At the Meliá Cayo Coco, the hotel's Las Caletas restaurant is a stunning place to eat. Its open-air location on a dock built over the lagoon lets diners eat under breezy tents. Likewise, Meliá Cayo Guillermo boasts several eateries scattered in prime locations around its expansive complex. The open-air grill restaurant right on the beach is a real highlight.

Seafood is the main dining attraction on Cayo Guillermo, but all the restaurants offer a comprehensive menu with plenty of continental meals and authentic Cuban fare. The NH Krystal Laguna Villas and Resort is another massive hotel with nearly a dozen places to eat and drink among its beautiful grounds.

If you tire of eating the food at your Cayo Guillermo hotel, you can slip down to the Playa Pilar and enjoy the freshly grilled seafood at the privately-owned Ranchón El Pilar. The Playa Prohibida is another beach where you can find an independent eatery. The Ranchón Playa Prohibida is located in a simple beach hut, but the (shockingly affordable) lobster tails are to die for.

Away from the cays, Morón is easily the best town to find a good meal. Head straight to the Restaurante-Bar La Fuente on Calle Marti for the best Cuban fare around. This restaurant is just upscale enough to feel chic, centred on a dining menu loaded with the bounty of the sea. Afterwards, drop by Casa de la Trova and get your fill of classic live Cuban music.
