Cayo Guillermo Museums and Art Galleries

(Cayo Guillermo, Ciego de Avila, Jardines del Rey, Cuba)

The only museum anywhere near Cayo Guillermo is across the causeway in the small town of Morón. Here, you can find the Museum of Archaeology and History and its local Cuban relics.

Thankfully, inside there is a decent collection of pre-Columbian artefacts and other native pieces of art. Don't expect any art galleries in Morón or the cays, however. This far-flung corner of Cuba hasn't developed its art gallery and café scene just yet.

Museum of Archaeology and History (Museu de Arqueologia e Historia)

Address: Calle Marti, Morón, CU

The small but interesting Museu de Arqueologia e Historia in nearby Morón is the town's principal attraction and is a good place to brush up on the ancient history of this region of Cuba. The museum can be found along the Calle Marti, alongside the colonades and main streets, and is spread over two floors, the first of which concentrates on regional history. There is a collection of idols and treasures from the pre-Columbian era that is worth the visit alone. The central location of the Museum of Archaeology and History allows you to stroll around the town's colourful main street afterwards, while the rooftop lookout provides some of the best possible views. Of note, next door is the charismatic 1920s railway station.
