Picture of Singleton ParkThe Swansea area of West Glamorgan is home to an absolutely enormous number of parks, gardens, nature reserves and areas of extreme natural beauty. The city's Nature Conservation Team manage many of Swansea's main conservation projects, such as the Hillside Wildlife Corridor, the Mumbles Hill Local Nature Reserve, the Pwll Du Cliffs Local Nature Reserve, the Swansea Vale Nature Reserve and the Whiteford National Nature Reserve.

Those staying in Swansea and looking for more traditional parklands will enjoy a visit to Victoria Park along Gors Lane, while for families with young children, a summer visit to the paddling pool at the Blackpill Lido on Mumbles Road is a must. Another of Swansea's best parks is Singleton Park, in the Sketty district, where you will find spectacular botanical gardens. Nearby, the Singleton Boating Lake has much to offer, such as swan boats available for hire, a playground and also miniature golf.

A major summertime attraction overlooking the Mumbles area and an extremely scenic stretch of Swansea Bay, the Blackpill Lido is always full of children during sunny weather. With a large and shallow paddling pool in the shape of a whale, complete with fountains and other fun water features, additional attractions here include playground equipment, areas suitable for picnicking and seating next to the pool itself. The Blackpill Lido lies alongside the promenade and the cycle trail, in the Blackpill suburb.

An enormous parkland offering the perfect place for a stroll and respite from the hustle and bustle in Swansea city centre, Singleton Park spreads for around 100 acres / 40 hectares and is overflowing with attractions. Featuring walking and cycle trails, a large duck pond and many mature trees, the highlight at Singleton Park is without doubt the walled Botanical Gardens. Known for its extensive collection of azaleas and pelargoniums, the Botanical Gardens feature many themed areas, such as desert and rainforest plants within the hothouses.

Brynmill Park

Full of family fun and plenty of recreational activities, Brynmill Park offers a duck pond, huge expanses of lawned areas, a children's playground, pathways and plenty of seating. The perfect place for an impromptu picnic, further highlights within Brynmill Park include a basketball court, an adjacent bowling green and floral displays with rose beds. The park is especially historic and dates back to the 1870s, when it was created from an old reservoir.

Clyne Gardens

Covering amongst 50 acres / 20 hectares of gardens, wildflower meadows and woodland areas, the Clyne Gardens are home to many enormous subtropical plant specimens. There is interest all through the year here, although the Clyne Gardens are particularly colourful in the spring, when the magnolia trees and bulbs begin to flower, peaking in May and June.

The award-winning Victoria Park is sandwiched between both the Patti Pavilion and the Guildhall, making it easy to find. An important area of green with many traditional features, Swansea's Victoria Park features many landscaped garden areas, colourful and seasonal planting, including large herbaceous areas, and well-maintained lawns. Various leisure activities are on offer here, including a skating park, playground area for children and several tennis courts.
