Amongst the best offerings, Swansea's Glynn Vivian Art Gallery along Alexandra Road is worth stopping by and contains an impressive permanent collection of paintings, sculptures and much more besides.

The Mission Gallery lies within the Maritime Quarter of Swansea and features many changing exhibitions and works by numerous local artists, while the nearby Attic Gallery is pleased to nurture emerging artists from Swansea and beyond.

A stylish gallery with many superb paintings and old masters, the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery also boasts a huge collection of local china and international porcelain. A modern wing of the gallery offers changing exhibitions of current artists, while the main collection features stained-glass works and a number of stunning large oil paintings, many of which were gifted by Richard Glynn Vivian in the early 20th century. The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery can be found in a stylish, purpose building with stunning classical architecture, a cavernous interior with glass roof and also an outdoor sculpture court.

Attic Gallery

A private gallery established in the early 1960s, the Attic Gallery specialises in the works by Welsh contemporary artists and also contains paintings by a number of the area's leading artists. Encouraging up-and-coming artists from the Swansea area and beyond, the Attic Gallery was previously named the 'Dilwyn Gallery'. Over the years, the gallery has taken many of its paintings to exhibitions in both England and the USA and moved from Wind Street to the more spacious building at Cambrian Place in 1998, in the very heart of the bustling Maritime Quarter.

Mission Gallery

An independent art gallery sited within the Maritime Quarter, the Mission Gallery offers numerous temporary exhibitions or visual arts and a 'Craft Space', where glassworks, ceramics, textiles, paintings and jewellery can all be found. The gallery is known for its works inspired by the nearby coastal scenery and is actually housed within a historic Chapel building.

Mumbles Arts and Crafts Centre

Located in the nearby village of Mumbles and close to the coastline, the Mumbles Arts and Crafts Centre actively promotes the works of local artists. Founded in 1997 by a group of emerging artists from the Swansea area, expect to find watercolours, photography exhibitions, stylish jewellery, porcelain, tiles, woodcraft, paintings classes and a range of other art works.

Taliesin Arts Centre

Part of the University of Wales Swansea, the highly acclaimed Taliesin Arts Centre is an important exhibition space with a full programme of events. Opened in the mid-1980s and home to many frequent cinema screenings, the art gallery itself can be found on the ground floor and features a good selection of local arts and crafts, paintings and prints, most of which are available for purchase. Around ten different exhibitions are staged here each year, together with live music events, conferences and lectures. The Ceri Richards Art Gallery is also situated within the centre and sells a good selection of mainly contemporary art works.
