Malmo Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

A fairly exposed, coastal city often referred to as being the 'Swedish Riviera', the climate in Malmo is generally classed as temperate. The winter months can feature occasional frosty weather between December and February, while the summers are generally pleasant and relatively warm, although rarely scorching hot. At times, Malmo's climate can feel a little chilly, with ocean breezes making the temperatures feel much colder, particularly around the western harbour and its long boardwalk.

However, during the months of July and August, when the sunny weather results in temperatures climbing higher than 20°C / 68°F, a gentle ocean breeze can often feel quite refreshing. Climate extremes are not unheard of in Malmo and there are usually some days where the temperatures exceed 25°C / 77°F at this time of the year.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Malmo features four seasonal climates, which are strongly influenced by its proximity to the ocean. Although the summer weather can be warm at times, periodic rainy weather can make the temperatures drop dramatically. Summer daylight hours in Malmo are extremely long, with sunrise as early as 03:00 in the morning, setting at around 23:00 or even later.

The winter weather in Malmo can be harsh at times and a little damp, although in general, the climate is not overly cold. However, in the winter months, the daylight hours are considerably less and on the shortest day, you can expect just seven hours of daylight. However, the Yuletide festivities and Winterland celebrations make the winters all the more cheery.
