Salou Shopping and Districts

This resort town has no shortage of shopping outlets, especially when it comes to gift shops and fashionable boutiques near the waterfront. In addition to these standard resort retailers, Salou also has a few outdoor markets that meet on a seasonal basis. The best shopping scene ignites during the summer, when tourists are here in greatest numbers. Not surprisingly, clothing and souvenirs are the most popular purchases here.

Most of the shops in Salou are centrally located, along with the restaurants and hotels. Shoppers peruse storefronts along the waterfront promenade and on the outskirts of the Marina. Barcelona Street is also a popular shopping street, with a range of souvenir shops and fashion boutiques on hand.


When to Shop and Where

Nearby Barcelona is a trendsetter in the world of European fashion, and clothing by Catalonian designers is of a particularly high quality. Fashionable boutiques have drifted down to the Costa Daurada and can be found here in Salou. For serious shoppers, it's worth driving to Barcelona and devoting an entire day to retail therapy.

Traditional items are for sale at local markets. A flea market convenes in Salou town centre every Monday, or it's possible to drive out to La Pineda or Cambrils, each of which have their own market days. The region's biggest market of all is a Sunday market in Bonavista. Any of these markets are ideal for bargain hunters.

Markets traditionally sell leather goods and ceramics that have been made in the region, along with a range of seasonal produce and food products. Olives and wines and particularly popular purchases, as they make great gifts. Shoppers who have paid a productive visit to one market may not have need to visit another, as the stalls even within a single market tend to be repetitive.
