Salou Restaurants and Dining

(Salou, Catalonia, Spain)

As a well-established tourist resort, Salou has an excellent dining scene and some delicious Spanish food on offer. Several fine dining restaurants are situated right on the coast, with more laid-back eateries scattered in between. This being Catalonia, Salou also boasts an outstanding spread of tapas bars that cater for late-night partiers. For an even greater selection, visit the neighbouring town of Cambrils, which is only a few miles to the west and is well-known for its dining options.

Salou is a compact town, and most of its restaurants are within easy walking distance of the beaches and local hotels. Choices abound along the promenade and around the marina, where there are plenty of international eateries. Tourists will find British pubs, American fast-food chains and inexpensive Chinese restaurants. Beyond this, the finest upmarket restaurants are hosted by local resorts.

What to Eat, and Where

Despite the international offerings, it's the Catalan and Spanish cuisine that excite serious gourmands. Salou is stacked with cosy cafés that make aromatic paella. Fresh Mediterranean seafood is plentiful, often prepared with garlic and olive oil, and served with vegetables harvested here in the region. Bite-sized tapas dishes are served in bars and cafés around the marina.

Salou focuses on value-for-money dining, with popular family-oriented pubs in the main tourism zone. The Waterfront is one of these, known for its international menu and reasonable prices. The Guinness Tavern and Uncle Sam's are similar establishments, and they are both extremely popular with visitors.

For something more authentic, try Asador las Brasasi. Locals dine here and regularly recommend it as a place to sample genuine Catalonian cuisine. A fixed-price menu keeps costs under control, and the kitchen works with the same fresh ingredients and time-tested recipes as more expensive hotel restaurants.
