Toledo Museums and Art GalleriesEven as a small city, Toledo has a fine selection of museums and art galleries, housing varied exhibitions. Notable displays are dominated by national Spanish artists such as Goya, El Greco and Velaquez.

Several museums provide student discounts, sometimes as much as 50 percent off the original entry price. Of note, opening times at most of the museums in Toledo tend to vary during the summer months, with closing times often being delayed by an hour.



Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Museum of Contemporary Art)

This museum houses a Spanish modern art collection, including work by Joan Miró and Aureliano de Beruete. The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo contains a large amount of figurative art from the 20th century.

Museo de los Concilios y Cultura Visigótica (Museum of Visigothic Councils and Culture)

This is one cultural attraction worth looking out for, since the Museo de los Concilios y Cultura Visigótica not only houses an impressive collection of jewellery and local Spanish documents, but it also boasts particularly eye-catching religious architecture. Located within the San Roman Church (La Iglesia San Román), a Moorish temple dating from the 13th century, the Museum of the Councils and Visigothic Culture also comes with a host of archaeological treasures from Spain's 6th, 7th and 8th centuries.

Museo de Taller del Moro (Taller del Moro Museum)

Examples of the workmanship of the artisan who once worked upon the cathedral are found in this 14th-century building. The Museo de Taller del Moro is also known for its 14th-century Mudéjar ceramics and is just a short stroll from the Iglesia de Santo Tomé.

Museo de Santa Cruz (Holy Cross Museum)

Completed in 1515, the Museo de Santa Cruz was initially a hospital. Within the building now dwells an art collection including a wide selection of El Greco pieces such as the 'Asunción de la Virgen' (Altarpiece of the Assumption). There are many religious items on display including tapestries.

Museo Sefardi (Sephardic Museum)

The Museo Sefardi demonstrates a sense of the Jewish culture in Spain with its exhibits of medieval scrolls, vestments and tombs. Expect to find various events taking place here during traditional Jewish holidays, such as the Purim (Festival of Lots), Pesach (Passover), Sukkot (Feast of Booths / Tabernacles) and Hanukkah (Festival of Lights).
