With both a Muslim and Roman heritage, one of Malaga's most ancient landmarks is the 9th-century fortress of La Alcazaba, which is well-preserved.

Other notable landmarks in Malaga include the Gibralfaro Castle (Castillo de Gibralfaro) - which was built in the 1300s, and Malaga Cathedral (La Catedral) - a magnificent building situated in the heart of the city.
