With coastal locations and more rural spots with mountain views, self-catering apartments in Malaga are becoming an increasingly appealing alternative to more mainstream accommodation and hotels. For budget travellers staying in Malaga, plenty of hostels (hostales) are on offer, although these can quickly become full during Easter and August, when a number of major festivals and parades take place, attracting large crowds. Many of the cheapest hotels in Malaga can be found around the Calle Marques de Larios, the Plaza de la Constitucion, and close to the Alameda Principal area.

Although Malaga does not actually offer any five-star hotels at present, there are a number of luxury hotels and four-star accommodation options available, often featuring central locations, notable restaurants and private swimming pools. Hotels become cheaper as you approach the outskirts of Malaga and plenty of hotels are located around Estepona, Fuengirola, Marbella, Ronda, Torremolinos and the Parque Natural de los Montes, all of which are within easy reach of central Malaga.

For those looking for the cheapest accommodation, camping is available along Malaga's Pedregalejo Beach and in the Benalnatura area, where good family facilities are available.
