The Royal Castle in Warsaw (Plac Zamkowy)
Although the exterior of the Royal Castle is quite impressive, you should really make sure that you go inside. You will be pleased that you did. There are around 300 rooms and each of these has been restored to its original appearance. It is no one great big museum, with many outstanding portraits and antiques.

Castle Square
The locals call Castle Square the Plac Zamkowy and this is often the first glimpse that tourists get of the reconstructed Old Town. There are many grand monuments here, like Zygmunt's Column, which was put up here in 1644 and is visible from quite a distance. And of course, there's the Royal Castle, which was almost completely destroyed at the end of WWII and rebuilt in the seventies. The reconstruction was completed in 1984.

Stare Miasto
For me, the best part of Warsaw was the Stare Miasto (Old Town). This is the oldest part of the city and is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list, so you can be guaranteed it's something pretty special. Much was rebuilt after is way destroyed in the Second World War, although it all looked pretty historical to me. Very convincing and lots of nice Baroque features.
