The endless sunny weather and enticing Greek climate has resulted in the island of Corfu becoming nothing short of a tourist hotspot. One of the most popular of the islands in the Ionian Sea, the climate of Corfu is quite different to than on mainland Greece, with infrequent periods of heavy rain resulting in particularly lush vegetation.

During the summer months, Corfu and the many other Ionian islands can enjoy an extremely hot summer climate, with many holiday makers choosing to sunbathe on the beaches, and cool down in the sea. Whilst July and August regularly see temperatures of more than 31°C / 88°F, it is not uncommon to see highs topping 40°C / 104°F, remaining almost completely dry throughout this period.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

The island of Corfu does not experience the cooling breeze of Greece's 'meltemi', but instead, the northern Ionian Sea and 'maistro' breezes offer pleasant, cooling breezes in the height of the summer climate, particularly during June and July. With perfect beach weather and warm evenings lending themselves to club hopping, Corfu quickly develops a lively and vibrant summer vibe.

The summer climate is a little too hot for some and many prefer to holiday on Corfu during May, which marks the very beginning of the tourist season. Visiting the islands in May has the distinct advantage that the beaches are less crowded and the tavernas are much quieter. The October weather in Corfu is quite similar and even the Ionian winters are mild, although this is generally considered to be the wet season and rain is at its most likely between November and March.
