Santorini Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

(Santorini, Cyclades, Greece)

Terrace view, overlooking the coastThe Aegean island of Santorini is close to Crete and as such, enjoys a very similar climate, which is typically Mediterranean. With hot, sunny and dry summers, followed by short and mild winters, holiday makers flock to Santorini all through the year, although visitors numbers are at their greatest during the summer season, between June and September.

The warm and extremely favourable climate experienced on Santorini means that it is possible to swim in the sea as early as the end of April, when the tourist season really begins. Indeed, many locals swim and enjoy water sports even earlier than this.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

The long summer sunshine is accompanied by a noticeable lack of rain and this means that you can sightsee and sunbathe at your leisure. From June to September, Santorini's sunny weather and inviting climate results in temperatures peaking at more than 30°C / 86°F.

If the midday sunshine is too hot for you, then this is a good time to enjoy a spot of lunch in one of the island's many air-conditioned restaurants, or simply a dip in the sea.
