Views of Dresden from the Dreikonigskirche
If you want some good rooftop views across Dresden old town, then climb up to the top of the Dreikonigskirche church tower. You have to pay a small entrance fee and it's quite a climb, but it is worth it. You get handed a map so that you can spot all the main landmarks when you get there.

Remains of the Kurlander Palais
The Kurlander Palais is near to the Frauenkirche. This must have been one lovely building, but it got bombed in 1945, along with a lot of the other monuments of Dresden. It's just a shell now, with weeds growing out of the bricks, but I heard that it is going to become a hotel soon. About time!

Concerts at the Semper Opera House
The Semper Opera House is a stunning building on the big Theaterplatz, although it is difficult to get a really good view of the whole thing, because there's a great big statue of a horse in the way! It was opened in 1841 and many world premiers of operas have been held here since its opening. This is yet another building that was destroyed in World War II, although it has been rebuilt from the ashes and fully restored to its former glory. In 2002, the River Elbe burst its banks and caused some flood damage. There are some crackin fountains outside and in the summer, a lot of people tend to hang out here, sitting on the benches in the sunl listening to the splashing water. What a lovely way to spend a day in Dresden. A nice memory of my time in Germany.
